Bodrum... Hmmm... It was a promising city, where the famous Mausoleum of Halicarnassus used to stand. Now, not so much. But more, we had an incident at our hotel which initially really left us with a bad taste in our mouth, but then the stay improved. Still, I am not sure that Bodrum was our favorite place.
We ended up not seeing the site where the Mausoleum used to stand. We drove around 3 times looking for the darn thing and we know we were in the right place, but... So, no Mausoleum. We did do a day cruise around the area to swim and see the sites on other islands including a spring which legend states that Cleopatra used and that her beauty was because she bathed in the waters and used the clay on her skin. We'll see how that works for me!
We also saw Bodrum Castle which was built in the 1400s and for which stones from the Mausoleum were taken and used to fortify the Castle. Kind of sad, hmmm? In any case, the sunsets in Bodrum were lovely!
