Day one of Cappadocia

I know, I have been a bad girl about posting!  But things got really busy in Vietnam with going off into Northern Vietnam (little to no internet access) and then of course escaping Typhoon (now Tropical Storm) Nesat.  But success!  We are out of Hanoi and moved on now to Hue.  So, let me try and at least attempt to get closer to finishing up with Turkey photos!

Cappadocia was as lovely as the pictures suggest and as people tell you.  The landscapes are obviously worlds different from other parts of Turkey and the history of the area is so rich!  If you didn't know, the cavehouses and building of underground cities began thousands of years ago with the Hittites and then later also by Christians trying to escape persecution from the Romans.  Fascinating.

We started our 5 day adventure with Southern Cappadocia, visiting stone chapels, a formerly Greek village, a recently discovered Roman town currently under excavation, and a Karavansaray.  Oh, and it is a major wine producing region so there were grapes everywhere!

The chapels in the cave houses were really sad to see because so many previous visitors damaged the frescoes (sadly, with lame graffiti).

Karavansaray with this lovely Turkish lady:

More to come on Cappadocia!!!
