Brazil! Brazil!

I landed in Rio de Janeiro after 46 hours of travel time airport to airport from Delhi via Chicago and Miami.  I don't think I would recommend that to anyone.  Oh, and Miami International Airport is FREEZING.  Apparently they keep the A/C on 60F always.  So you love it the first 5 minutes and then you slowly freeze to death.  Thankfully, I still had my Tibet blanket.  So I was toasty warm, fast asleep, and I am sure people thought I was crazy.  :)

Now, the other thing I failed to mention was I caught the India cold that was going around our group and so was also sick the entire time and all I wanted to do once I hit Rio was sleep.  It was rainy too, so I didn't miss out too much?

That being said, Rio is such a beautifully situated city with the mountains behind it and pristine white beaches lining the city.  I definitely need to spend more time investigating this city in the future.  And you know what else about timing?  Because of the World Cup and Olympics in 2014 and 2016 respectively, there was a heavy police presence and they had just recently, before my landing in Rio, been cleaning out some of the most dangerous and infamous favelas!  In fact, the one right behind Leblon, the ritziest part of town, was cleared out just days before I landed.  All the Brazilians I spoke to said how nice it was to feel safe.  Tells you something, hmmm?

So, because of the rain, I didn't get to do Sugar Loaf.  But I did get to see Corcovado and we also drove the Parque Nacional de Tijuca.

The infamous favela:
