Chitwan: The search for the elusive rhino

We had a lovely canoe ride on the river before heading into Chitwan National Park for a Jungle Walk.  6 hour jungle walk to look for animals.  Rhino, Tiger, Sloth Bear.  We were also given directions for what to do in order to get away should we encounter one of these beasts.  The general gist?  Don't throw the guide at the animal and don't jump on the guide.

We tromped around the jungle louder than elephants (which are surprisingly quiet) so big surprise, no rhino or other animal sightings.  But it turns out we should have just gone directly to the guesthouse, drank a beer and waited for the rhino to just walk up!  I didn't get to see it - by the time I was informed, got my camera, and went out, they were 4 football fields away and I was in flip-flops.  I didn't really get excited at running through elephant dung to see a rhino (I know, I know, but I have seen a few!).

The next day, we went on an Elephant ride.  It was not very comfortable, people were loud as crap, and the driver wasn't so nice to his Ele, Lakshmi Kali.  I am not sure I could ever do that again or recommend it.  But we did end up leaving other people (I told the driver to go off in a different direction) and after that we got to see a herd of deer, peacocks, crocs...  It was quite lovely.

There's our 40 yo girl, Lakshmi Kali!
